Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Wholesome and straightforward: Made with fresh Granny Smith apples and pantry staples.

  • Customizable: Adjust the filling to your taste with nuts, raisins, or spices.

  • Cozy and Comforting: Perfect for chilly evenings or a nostalgic dessert.

The Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 large Granny Smith apples

  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • Ground cinnamon

  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

  • ¼ cup raisins (optional)

  • ½ cup of water (for baking)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.

  2. Prepare the apples: Wash the Granny Smith apples and use a corer or paring knife to carefully remove the core and seeds, creating a hollow center. Be sure to leave the bottom intact to hold the filling.

  3. Stuff the apples: Cut the butter into cubes and put one cube in the bottom of each apple. Follow with a layer of cinnamon and then brown sugar. Add one more square of butter to the top of the apples.

  4. Bake the apples: Place the stuffed apples in the prepared baking dish. Pour the water into the bottom of the dish to help keep the apples moist. Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

  5. Remove foil and finish baking: Uncover the dish and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the filling is golden brown.

  6. Serve and enjoy: For an extra indulgent treat, serve the baked apples warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce. I prefer to just eat the apples by them selves! They are satisfying and healthy.

Tips for Perfect Baked Apples

  • Choose the Right Apples: Granny Smith apples are ideal for baking because they hold their shape and balance the sweetness of the filling with their tart flavor.

  • Get Creative with Fillings: Swap the oats for granola, add dried cranberries, or use coconut flakes for a fun twist.

  • Make Ahead: Prepare the apples and filling in advance, then bake just before serving.

Why It’s a Family Favorite

These Granny Smith Baked Apples perfectly combine tart, sweet, and spiced flavors. They’re cozy and satisfying and bring all the nostalgic feelings of fall and winter desserts. Whether serving them for a dinner party or enjoying them on a quiet evening at home, they’re guaranteed to bring warmth and comfort to your table.
