Greek Lamb Tacos Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Meat Filling:

  • 2 lbs ground lamb

  • 2 lbs ground beef

  • 1 red onion, finely chopped

  • 8–10 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2–3 tbsp dried oregano

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 2 ½ tbsp tomato paste

  • 2 cups red wine

For Serving:

  • Warm pita bread

  • Feta tzatziki (recipe linked below)

  • Tomato relish (recipe linked below)

  • Fresh herbs (basil, dill, or mint) for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Cook the Meat

  1. Heat a large skillet or pot over medium heat with a drizzle of olive oil.

  2. Add the chopped red onion and cook for about 3 minutes until softened.

  3. Stir in the minced garlic, dried oregano, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute until fragrant.

  4. Add the ground lamb and beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 7–10 minutes.

  5. Pour in the red wine.

  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly. I find that the longer the flavors simmer together the better it tastes, if it starts to get dry add a little more wine.

📌 Pro Tip: Let the meat sit for 30 minutes before serving to deepen the flavors!

Step 2: Assemble the Tacos

  1. Warm your pita.

  2. Spoon a generous amount of the lamb mixture into each taco.

  3. Add a dollop of feta tzatziki for a creamy, tangy contrast.

  4. Top with tomato relish for a fresh, crisp bite.

  5. Garnish with fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon for extra flavor!
